In Christ main talks

In the main sessions of NTE we will explore in depth what it means to be In Christ. To open and close the conference, Richard Chin will help us think about how we are to be found in Christ and how to proclaim Christ. Throughout the night sessions, Rory Shiner will speak on what it means to be converted, justified, sanctified and gathered in Christ.

In Christ tracks

The In Christ tracks will help you engage more deeply with some of the issues that arise from the theme of the conference. Over the course of three sessions, you will look at one topic in-depth, seeking to grasp a biblical understanding of this issue, as well as consider how it directly impacts you as a Christian on campus and beyond.

Con

Resurrection life in Christ

Con Campbell

What does it mean to share in Jesus' resurrection? Why does it matter? What difference does it make? The short answer: it's the difference between life and death. Come to this track for the longer answers.

Con Campbell teaches New Testament studies at Moore Theological College, Sydney. His areas of research include the Greek verbal system and Paul’s teaching concerning our union with Christ. Con and his wife Bronwyn have three children: Jasmine, Xanthe and Lukas. Together they enjoy playing cricket in the park, learning to play chess and jazz appreciation classes.

Suffering in Christ

Paul Grimmond

We so often talk about the problem of suffering. But the New Testament spends most of its time talking about the privilege of suffering for those who suffer in Christ. So how are we supposed to think about suffering from a Christian perspective? Is it good or bad ... or both? And how does being in Christ make a difference?

Paul Grimmond is married to Cathy and they have three wonderful kids. He has worked as a Chaplain at the University of New South Wales for the last decade (apart from a short stint as an editor and author with Matthias Media). He loves writing and recording music, reading, watching his kids play sport, good TV series (now available on DVD so he can watch them when he finds time) and spending time with Cathy.

Phillip

Serving in Christ

Phillip Jensen

Ministry means service, a minister is a servant. Our Lord Jesus Christ came to serve and called all his people to serve. What does serving/ministering in Christ mean in the 21st century? How do we use the gifts God has given us to serve others in Christ today? How should living for Christ shape our lives and responsibilities as world citizens?

Phillip Jensen has had a wide ministry for over thirty years. Having been the chaplain of UNSW since 1975, he still retains his connection with that ministry. As well as being the Director of Ministry Training and Development for the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Phillip is the senior minister at St Andrews Cathedral and so is the Dean of Sydney. Married to Helen, they have three married children and many grandchildren.

Identity in Christ

Rowan Kemp

Christian faith is no spiritual accessory. It's not like buying a new pair of shoes or going vegan. Being 'in Christ' is a thorough-going, Trinitarian transformation of who you are which alters your fundamental relationship with God and others. Let's explore this liberating and game-changing truth from Scripture together.

Rowan Kemp suspects these speaker 'bios' are theologically dodgy. Especially when he's running a track on 'Identity In Christ'. But to fit the cultural paradigm ... Rowan is married to Jenny, has five children, studied too much maths and not enough arts at uni, loves serving Jesus as leader of the EU Staff team at Sydney Uni. Fav food: curry. Fav sporting event: Paris-Roubaix. Fav colour: green. Any questions?

Dave

United in Christ

(FOCUS international students’ track)
Dave Walter

What does it mean for us to be united in Christ? Are you in or out of Christ? Do you have true life or are you still spiritually dead? How can we be united in Christ, if we are from different countries, eat different foods and speak different languages? What is God’s plan for uniting all people, everywhere in Jesus, and how can you be a part of that? Come and find out the answers to these and other important life-changing questions!

Dave Walter works with FOCUS at Adelaide and Flinders Universities in South Australia. He was born on the Great Ocean Road and studied at Melbourne Uni. David is married to Cathy, who works with him on the FOCUS team. David thinks that one of the greatest things in life is to share the Good News about Jesus with international students, especially those who have no Christian background.
